Joaquin Lopez
Joaquin was born in Quito, Ecuador, surrounded by the Andes volcanoes, and developed a profound passion for trail running. His first summit above 4000m was at the age of 11, sparking a natural curiosity for exploration and a desire to test the limit. This passion drove him to adventure outdoors, pushing both his mind and body and shaping him into an endurance athlete.
At the age of 21, Joaquin completed his first trail running race – The North Face Endurance Challenge 50 km and he won it. Since then he hasn’t stopped running and competing around the world pushing boundaries for all Latin American athletes. While racing is an important aspect of his identity as a runner, it goes beyond that. He is inspired by people who achieve their goals, and in turn, he strives to motivate others through his own accomplishments. He is the owner and head coach of Ecuadoruns, one of the biggest Trail running training companies in Latin America.
His perseverance and tireless effort have led to his accomplishments in trail running. In 2024 he was the first Latin American to stand on the podium of UTMB achieving a 3rd place overall. And in 2025 he won and set a new course record in Mt Fuji 100. Each journey served as the proof that he challenges himself and goes beyond his limits.
Joaquin grows up through exploration, progresses through persistence, and pursues excellence through love - embodying the true spirit of trail running in everything he does.
